Police chief's wife arrested for heroin possession in Georgia

Federal drug charges have a lasting impact on your life, whether you're arrested and released or end up convicted. There is the media that will pick up the story, and your reputation that could take a hit because of how you're treated.

Sometimes, drug busts happen to involve people you wouldn't expect. Take, for example, a case out of Georgia that involved a police chief's wife. She was charged with heroin possession, according to the Nov. 14 report.

In this case, the wife of the police chief was one of three people who were arrested when narcotics agents arrived and seized around $6,500 in heroin and methamphetamine. She was with two other people in their home in Gainesville when the bust took place.

In the home, the agents described finding around 20 grams of heroin. They reported picking up four Xanax pills, around $3,000 in cash, two firearms and around 5 grams of methamphetamine. They also reported finding scales, ledgers and syringes, indicating that the drugs may have been sold.

There is no question that drugs can affect anyone, from family members of the police to the wealthy. If you are accused of possessing or using drugs, it's important that you defend yourself. It's also important that you're given a chance to treat an addiction, if you have one.

It is hard to deal with drug charges, but you deserve to be treated with respect as you move through the court system. Your attorney will help you protect yourself and defend your own interests so that you have a better chance of walking away with few penalties, if any.
