Dealing or using drugs can get you into deep trouble with the law, especially in states where drug abuse is a significant problem. In Georgia, drug use and abuse are taken extremely seriously, as the state is known to have a drug-trafficking problem.

Take, for example, this case. In South Georgia, a man who was found to be involved in trafficking drugs through the state will now spend over 10 years in prison for the crime. According to the news from April 6, the 49-year-old man from Valdosta was sentenced to six years of supervised release following 125 months in prison.

It’s been shown that the man was involved in a crack cocaine and cocaine distribution ring between the years 2013 and 2014. This ring operated between South Georgia and Atlanta.

The man and his 18 co-conspirators have all been sentenced for distributing hundreds of kilograms of cocaine. It was sold both as crack cocaine and cocaine in powdered format.

Interestingly, the man most recently arrested has a criminal record in drug dealing dating back to the 1990s, which did not help his federal case. There is no parole in the federal court system, so the man will not have the opportunity to seek it.

If you are caught with drugs, know that your freedom could be on the line. It’s vital to take steps to protect yourself and your interests moving forward. The right defense does make a difference in the outcome of your case and can sometimes help you avoid prison or have the penalties you face reduced based on your circumstances.
